David is a musician, mainly playing piano and singing. He throws in some guitar and mandolin too just for fun. Captain Davy is a stage persona he created while performing in a swinging lounge trio with Larry and Gerry, "The Green Fedora."
He also happens to be the captain of the boat we live on, "The Green Room."
On January 31, 2024, Davy suffered a serious cardiac arrest while working a sound gig. Thanks to Bree and her perfect CPR, Davy is alive today. He was resuscitated three times before arriving in the ICU. It's estimated he went without oxygen to his brain for 10 to 12 minutes. His heart and lungs were stabilized within days however he will be fighting to heal from damage caused by the lack of oxygen to his brain for the next year or more. No one knows how much he will regain or when.
To read an account of David's journey from January 31, 2024 until now please visit our Ship's Log. It's a blog in the works that I will catch up on and then add to over time.
Davy's passion for music, performing, and sharing his music has been his strong suit from the moment he woke up in the ICU several days after the cardiac
Other parts of his brain have much more healing to do in order for him to get back to his old self. We WILL get there! This process is like dementia in reverse. He has a great attitude and is working hard to battle the confusion and fatigue.
A big part of Davy's healing comes from socializing with friends and family. Feel free to drop him a line or make plans to come on by. If you play music bring your instruments. If the aft deck is rockin' don't bother knockin'!
Davy can't work, earn, or even live unsupervised or unassisted. He needs 24 hour care and lots of love to keep him safe and on his way to healing. I am Davy's partner, Heidi. I work three jobs, primarily remotely, as well as gladly care for Davy. This initial part of our adventure has been financially draining. I am literally trying to stay afloat.
So many awesome people have been generous giving rides, lounge wear, meals, money and more. I don't want to ask for funds or favors without giving something in return - It's not my style. So here we are! Designing shirts, planning parties and offering our talents. We do graphic design, video editing, website builds, I create personal art and Davy performs music.
In a few months I hope to be Davy's paid caregiver at home through IHHS, if approved. That will bridge the gap allowing me to provide complete financial stability on my own. IHSS is a service through Yolo County where seniors and people with disabilities can act as agents hiring their own caregivers. Additionally, Davy's SSI is in the works which also takes several months to claim.
I want to thank you in advance for your support. Your care means the world to us and we are grateful for everything. We promise to work hard and make the most of this healing process.
